Communication through Advertisment

What do you interpret from both the pictures? It portrays a funny way of relating to the title.
The first picture shows that Direct English can be shown by two people forming in a straight line and the second picture shows that the girl in the mirror think "I am fat". But actually she is not.
I believe a good visual communication design is very important for users to understand the message or of the communication taking place. Communication can be revealed through pictures and advertisements are a good example of it.
An Advertisment create
      1. Awareness
2. Desire
   3. Intention
4. Action
This also means it is a non-verbal communication way of sending the message to the receiver.

• Psychological perspective where is uses the human mind to inteprate the meaning of the picture.
• Social Constructionist perspective to use values, beliefs and role models to communicate the idea to the    audience.
•Pragmatic Approach where it has critical response from the viewers when the viewers criticize the image. But the critics have been made in interests of the society, although an individual makes the critics. This way this perspective differs from the personal perspective.
I believe companies that make tons of money through advertising their products are good at communicating to the crowd.

  1. Its an interesting article highlighting the crucial part communication plays in our advertisements and how it influences our perspectives.

I agree with the fact that companies make money through these advertisements. Being profit motivated corporations, they seem to take social responsibility for granted. For instance, instead of highlighting the importance of staying healthy to the public, they are emphasizing on being slim through numerous slimming products. Thus, youth are frequently equating being slim to health.

Its disheartening to see wrong messages being instilled in our youths. We have to be critical of the intended messages that are being sent to us through these advertisements.

  2. Advertisements such as these have a short reel time and it is here we can see how important it is to capture the audience's attention effectively.

The advertisements have portrayed voluntary attention and involuntary attention capturing skills.

In "Direct English", the proximity between an English speaker and a Korean have given the intended audience(Koreans with the desire to learn English 1 to 1) a reason to listen to. The audience is able to relate to the Korean lady with themselves and her desire to master the language under the focused supervision of a native speaker.

In the second advertisement, the contrast between an anorexic woman and her perceived plump self evokes the receiver's involuntary attention. The clever, novel of using a mirror image to delve into an anorexic's mind draws the receiver even deeper so.

I end this comment with thanks. The advertisements have been both compelling and insightful.

  3. The importance of advertising is regularly on the increase in modern society. Just as the media of social communication themselves have enormous influence everywhere, so does advertising. Advertising uses media as a platform, where it is a pervasive, powerful tool shaping attitudes and behavior in today's world.

In today's society, advertising has a deep impact on how people understand life, the world and themselves, especially with regards to their values, choices and behavior.

The field of advertising is extremely broad and diverse. In general terms, an advertisement is a public notice meant to convey information and garner support for a cause. As that suggests, advertising has two basic purposes: to inform and to persuade.

Advertising also has an indirect but powerful impact on society through its influence on media. Many publications and broadcasting operations depend on advertising revenue for survival. This often is true of commercial media as well as charitable organizations. This economic dependency of media and the power it has carries a multitude of responsibilities.

Therefore, as members of the public, we will have to judge for ourselves the type of message that advertisers are relaying when it comes to a product, for example. We have the right towards informed choices regarding the product that the advertisers are selling.

    Thank you.
