I chanced upon this picture and found it very interesting. It is punny and really creative! As a recipient, you will be amused and actually remember the messages. The sender has used the 'ocean' theme to define his words. A few examples are, 'Sea', 'Seariously' and 'Shore'. They sound like the words 'See', 'Seriously' and 'Sure', although spelled differently in this text. From Chapter 2, we have learnt that message transmission is a psychological communication perspective. Communication is located in the human mind and the typical elements included are sender/receiver, encoding, message, and decoding. This is a successful communication because you can clearly interpret the sender's meaning.
I hope you liked this as much as I do, can you think of three more phrases associated with the theme? :)
Water = what are
ReplyDeletefish = wish
pacific = specific
The 3 other words i could pick out from the picture.. I think it is an excellent depiction of encoding and decoding of a message as well. Not only does the text force one to maintain their involuntary focus on it. Thus building on the effect of it being a good communication.

ReplyDeleteFirstly, thank you for sharing with me such a tongue-in-cheek post. It made me giggle for a moment while trying to figure out the text messages.
With more than 80 billion people from all over the world texting regularly, it is no surprise that people are now using short forms or acronyms. Acronyms have always held a pivotal role in the computer culture. Furthermore, it has taken a new role as the new language on the Internet.
However, this could affect the way we communicate with others around and misinterpretations could occur. Sometimes, when we encode and decode a message sent, others might view it differently as a receiver. Therefore, it is always best, in my opinion, to explain clearly and put the idea across directly so as no to create any misunderstanding.
Thank you.
The text message was hilarious yet insightful. It has shown how communication has progressed and evolved in our lives. The unique use of the 'ocean' theme was something many could make sense of. We were "of the same mind",we were able to relate and understand the intended message.
ReplyDeleteAnother example showing how communication has evolved would be Emoticons. Symbolic communication representing our thoughts and feelings. For instance, ((o(^0^)o)) or (=_=)Zzz
Here's our ocean themed answers:
Its a fintastic idea.
Its un-bubbly-vable how communication has grown.
We fish you all the bass.

ReplyDeleteThis is really funny! In this day and age whereby technology is taking precedence, it has berthed a whole new language and ways of communicating. It is both good and bad as represented by the picture, good as it is funny and entertaining and bad because it destroys relationship as the sender is now single thanks to his/her ocean related puns. It is rather shallow of the girlfriend/boyfriend, no?
ReplyDeleteThis post also clearly illustrates how a message need not be worded offensively to incur the wrath of the intended recipient. By phrasing your words in a cheeky manner and by substituting the letters in a word with that of a similar sounding syllable, it can be used to successfully incite anger or annoyance. Therefore, communication need not necessarily be about the tone of voice one uses, but also through how a person chooses to phrase his words in certain ways.
